Men’s Suit Size Guide
How to measure yourself for a suit, read US and EU sizing, and choose your fit. Every Nyoni suit is made to your measurements — this guide helps you order online with confidence, and if you’d rather be measured in person, we’ll do that too.
How to measure for a suit
You’ll need a soft tape measure and, ideally, a friend to help. Measure over a well-fitting shirt, stand relaxed, and keep the tape level. Round to the nearest half-inch.
-
1
Chest
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, under your arms and across your shoulder blades. Keep it level and snug — not tight.
-
2
Waist
Measure around your natural waistline, roughly at your belly button, with one finger between the tape and your body.
-
3
Seat
Measure around the fullest part of your seat, keeping the tape parallel to the floor.
-
4
Shoulders
Measure across your back, from the outer edge of one shoulder to the other.
-
5
Sleeve
From the shoulder seam, down a slightly bent arm to your wrist bone.
-
6
Jacket length
From the base of your collar down to where you want the jacket to end — usually around mid-hand.
-
7
Trouser waist
Measure where you actually wear your trousers, around your natural waist.
-
8
Inseam
From the crotch seam straight down the inside leg to the top of your shoe.
Suit & jacket size chart
Your jacket size follows your chest measurement — a 40″ chest is a size 40. European sizes are your US size plus 10.
| US size | Chest (in) | Chest (cm) | EU size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 34 | 34" | 86 cm | 44 |
| 36 | 36" | 91 cm | 46 |
| 38 | 38" | 97 cm | 48 |
| 40 | 40" | 102 cm | 50 |
| 42 | 42" | 107 cm | 52 |
| 44 | 44" | 112 cm | 54 |
| 46 | 46" | 117 cm | 56 |
| 48 | 48" | 122 cm | 58 |
| 50 | 50" | 127 cm | 60 |
| 52 | 52" | 132 cm | 62 |
Jacket length (S / R / L)
Length is matched to your height, so the jacket ends and the sleeves fall correctly.
| Length | Your height |
|---|---|
| Short (S) | 5’4″ – 5’7″ |
| Regular (R) | 5’8″ – 6’0″ |
| Long (L) | 6’1″ – 6’4″ |
Trousers are sized by your natural waist in inches, typically about six inches smaller than your jacket size (a size 40 jacket often pairs with a 34″ trouser). Because we make to order, we tailor the exact drop for you.

Suit sizing FAQs
How do I find my suit size?
Your jacket size is based on your chest measurement in inches — a 40″ chest is a size 40. Measure your chest as shown above, or book a fitting and we’ll take a full set of measurements for you.
What is the difference between US and EU suit sizes?
A European suit size is simply your US size plus 10. A US 40 is an EU 50, a US 44 is an EU 54, and so on. Nyoni sizes are shown in US.
What do S, R and L mean in suit sizing?
They are jacket lengths — Short, Regular and Long — matched to your height rather than your build. Most men between 5’8″ and 6’0″ wear a Regular.
How should a suit fit?
The shoulder seam should sit right at the edge of your shoulder, the jacket should close without pulling, and you should be able to slip a flat hand beneath the lapel. Trousers sit at your natural waist with a clean line down the leg.
What if I’m between sizes?
Because every Nyoni suit is made to order, you are not locked to a rack size. Size up for comfort and we refine the fit, or book a private fitting for exact measurements.
Do you offer made-to-measure suits?
Yes. Every suit is cut to your measurements and finished by hand at our Charlotte, Atlanta and Houston ateliers. Book a private fitting and we keep your measurements on file for every future order.
